The communications group at ERCC was founded by Robin John and managed by Peter Williams (known as "PEW"). The group built RJE (remote job entry systems) based on IBM 2780 and HASP workstation protocols for PDP8, PDP11, Elliot 4100, GEC 2050 / 4080 and subsequently the RCONET - joining Edinburgh, Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities. I left ERCC in 79 to join a similar team at ULCC (London University)
